Unrefined Beauty

Posted in Random Thoughts on January 29, 2009 by seamgrvs

I had someone walk into my office today that I have spoken to many times, but nothing was said, usually not more than a hello or how’s things, stuff like that.  Today, however, I found myself listening to her ramble on and on about a few things she was concerned with and although I was genuinely interested, the light coming from the front glass shown on her in a way that I wanted to reach for my camera and just snap away.  I’m sure most people would thought her attractive, but today….  yeah, beautiful barely compares….  I see beautiful people all the time, have the privilege to take their photo from time to time… ok, I am overly fortunate to be able to that more often than not… fine….  sigh….  today, is not one of those days, but the images that floated in my head were that of a dream and at least for now they will have to stay there.

MTV random stuff

Posted in Random Thoughts on January 28, 2009 by seamgrvs

I have heard lately MTV this and MTV that, most talking about how this band or another are considered to be the next greatest thing…  How in the world is MTV a proper judge of anything or anyone in the music world.  They should changed their logo to NSRTV (not so reality television).  As anyone who reads this knows, they haven’t had “music” on MTV for years…  I for one don’t understand it at all why people still relate to them as music television at all or take their opinion on anything related to music.

Image of the month is back…

Posted in Art Comments on January 27, 2009 by seamgrvs

I have uploaded the new image of the month for February already, just in case I get busy and don’t have time around the 1st of the month…

Once again, this is one of my favorite people, she has done many shoots with me and I will continue to have her as a model for as long as she wants to do it.  This is not her profession, but she does better than a lot of “models” that I know and work with.  This image is part of  ”gel” series that I play with from time to time.  Everyone knows I love using light and shadow, but at times, the right color sets a whole different tone to the image that you may not get otherwise.

“Fairy Tails” A new Whimsical Show depicting Cats and Dogs in their favorite fairy tales.

Wild Fork Restaurant in Utica Square, showing till March 2009.

Wild Fork Restaurant in Utica Square, showing till March 2009.

Dear Friends,

Happy 2009 Everybody! I am excited to see what possibilities 2009 holds for everyone. I am sending this email to catch up on some news about my new art show and The Tulsa Girls Art School.

First of all, I have painted 12 new original oil paintings that are hanging till the end of March 2009 at The Wild Fork Restaurant in Utica Square in Tulsa, OK. The show is called “Fairy Tails” and the paintings depict dogs and cats in their favorite fairy tails. The fairy tails in the show include Cinderella, Snow White, Rapunzel, The Snow Queen, Alice in Wonderland and Sleeping Beauty to name a few. The collection is very whimsical and I hope that if you would like a smile put on your face while eating some great food, then you will stop by and have a look! The entire collection can be seen on my website www.m2tulsa.com.

The Tulsa Girls Art School Project (TGAS) is fast approaching our 2nd anniversary since we opened our studio in 2007. The girls have been making all types of art in preparation for our show coming Thursday, April 16th, 2009.

We have a new assistant director at TGAS, her name is Amanda Burn and we are SO Lucky to have her! Amanda is a local Tulsa artist who attended TU and graduated with an art degree with emphasis in painting and ceramics. The girls are making series of art tiles for our spring show under Amanda’s tutelage and really are producing some great art! We also have an intern at TGAS, Ms. Rebecca Roselle, a junior at Cascia Hall. Rebecca loves talking with the girls and making art along side of them, meanwhile learning how a non-profit is run.

Late Night with Ben Sumner came and filmed a spot of TGAS for their show that will air on Cox cable channel 12, at 11pm on Saturday, Jan. 24th., 2009. Oklahoma Visual Artists Coalition newsletter will feature TGAS in their Spring 2009 newsletter. In December TGAS and I had a wonderful article in Tulsa People Magazine by local author Connie Cronley!

This year TGAS is working with 12 girls from Roosevelt Elementary in Owen Park in Tulsa. The girls learned painting during the fall session and now are concentrating on ceramics and fiber art. The 12 advanced girls are working on individual pieces that they choose to create, and my job is to support them. Please see our website at www.tulsagirlsartschool.com if you would like to get involved or know an artist who would like to come and teach a class or mentor a student. We are also building our art library at TGAS and happily accept any artist biographies or art books that you may like to donate to us…clean out your bookshelves or alert me when a book fair is going on…

Thanks everyone for your time and I hope that you and your loved ones are healthy, happy and appreciating art! Remember to support local artists and buy Local ART!! Oh- Lisa Regan/Garden Deva and Myself will have a little pre-valentines day sale at her studio (317 S. Trenton Ave., Tulsa, OK) if you want to surprise your honey with art.

The thoughts of children

Posted in Random Thoughts on January 25, 2009 by seamgrvs

As many know, I am a single father… I realize that more likely than not, this isn’t the kind of blog to be commenting on children, but considering that I am focused on writing here more, it’s inevitable that my children will sometimes be part of the comments I make….

Today, my youngest said something that made me proud of him just for thinking about it….  We were in a drugstore picking up a few things and while in line…”Hey dad, why is a store that is suppose to make you feel better selling cigarettes?”  He’s 9 and albeit, that is mentally a lot older in todays standards than when I was that age… no, I’m not old, just using the reference….  I still felt this was an interesting thought for someone like him…. my response…”It’s just one more way to make money and most retailers only care about the money…”  Thinking about it later, I know thats not a really good answer, although it’s true, I couldn’t at the time come up with some kind of sugar coating at all… and thinking about it still, I don’t think I needed to, just seems like a blah answer to a great question…  his response…. “Well, thats dumb.”    I agreed.

The lady checking us out heard our banter and she didn’t even talk to us, just checked our things, took our money and away we went.

Again with the blah

I have very little discipline when it comes to writing and updating, but feel I should make an effort to do both, if for nothing else, to overcome one more thing about myself that annoys me…lol..

I have fallen to the winter and the cold outside, and feel that it is freezing my abilities to create something called art.  More likely it’s an excuse, but it’s difficult to get models motivated when it’s so cold….  I have decided to work on ideas a little less on the mainstream, all of which are required to be inside…lol..  I had a new idea tossed at me by a new friend and it has been rattling around in my melon every since, so once i iron out the what, how, who and all that, I will post it for all to see.

Looking for new people for art projects

Posted in Wanted on August 27, 2008 by seamgrvs

I’m now looking for new people to trade out services with for some art projects that I will be working on for a while.  Some examples of the projects are:

Colored Gels – various poses caught in motion using extreme colored gels to portray the mood of each pose.

Image within an Image – I will be using a few different things to transpose an image onto that will be a section of the body, then have the same subject behind the transposed item, fully clothed…

Save Me – Will need at least two people for this series, will be looking for some firefighting costumes, medic outfits, police, etc.  Will be shot on location in different homes and setting up a theme where the woman is getting rescued by the professional is various states of dress.

Rag doll – Will be in different poses and dress to suggest a doll that has been cast aside.  May do some resizing to make it look like the model is actual doll size.

Down the barrel – macro close up of gun barrels with various themes set up of the model holding it.

Poker night – a strip poker game using the same model in 3 or more different poses around the same table.

Honorable death – Will be recreating the ancient honor of death by sword, it has many names, but thats the idea..  will be digital recreations after the images have been taken, combining several techniques to make them look as real as possible.

Shackled – will be looking for couples or friends, or whatever for this one, just need 2 people for each theme.  Different ideas, some shot on location, others using light and shadow, but most will be some form of tied up or shackled to something…

Intimate Moments – this one is also for couples who want to have something memorable.  I really want to add a new gallery with this setting.  Most images will be shot anonymous so you don’t have to wrry about being recognized.

These are just a few of the things I’m working on, so like I said before, if you are wanting to do something like this, but have been reluctant for financial reasons, now is the perfect time to do it.  I will be trade service for service, and in some case will even make some prints if you desire.  All the people will get a cd of the images, full size, without copyright to use however you may want.  Be sure to contact me if you are interested or if you know someone who may be.

The only stipulation is that everyone involved has to be at least 18 and I will need proper ID to prove that.  Everything else is fair game.  I will be looking for all skin types, hair, bust, etc not important.  Couples can be of any variation, again I will need several different styles, so same gender relationships are welcome.  Please contact me for image samples of any of the ideas I am talking about and to set up a meeting to discuss your role in modeling for me.

Image of the Month ~ September ~

Posted in Art Comments on August 27, 2008 by seamgrvs

This is an image in my newest gallery, “landscapes”  if you haven’t checked it out, be sure to as soon as you can.

Landscapes using the human body is not a new concept, but I try to give it my own style.  I have had many images like this purchased as wall art and with the way that it is shot, many can be hung without worrying about the image being unappropriate.

This image was something I threw in to another session with a great model I work with on a regular basis.  I feel it captures the rolling contours of her body in a way that makes you want to see what is just out of sight, just as when you are in nature, you really want to see what’s over the next hill.
